THE ARAVA INSTITUTE

Recognition

"Arava's example, and the belief that the United States Government should support similar initiatives in conflict zones around the world, led me to establish a new program in the Foreign Operations Appropriations Act called "Reconciliation Programs," which the Congress funded at $8,000,000 for FY2004. I was pleased that an additional $12,000,000 was appropriated for FY2005."
- Letter from U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy to U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell

In only one brief decade, voices from across the political, academic, professional, and public sectors around the world have recognized - and responded to - the impact of the Arava Institute. The Institute's unique educational experience, its timely research and development, and its many committed alumni, faculty, and students have been regularly cited for contributions to the causes of peace and environmental health in the Middle East.

In 2005, the prestigious Charles Bronfman Prize for Extraordinary Achievement was awarded to AIES founder, Alon Tal. Other such awards and support have come from academic, political and professional worlds. Recognition has also come in the form of participation and leadership in major regional and global conferences and seminars either hosted, or attended, by representatives of the Institute.

"The Arava Institute's intense academic program not only provides training for young environmental leaders, but also helps the students work together to forge a "middle eastern" ecological perspective, something that is so critical to the future of this region."
- Former Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres

The real recognition comes from those who contribute to the Institute. Over the past ten years, donors who realize the value of supporting the Institute have substantially increased its ability to educate new leaders for the region, while building on the investment of a skilled and cooperative environmental workforce for the future.
