Building the Future

The Friends of the Arava Institute Board of Trustees was formed in 2004 to meet the next generation of challenges toward building on the success of the Arava Institute. Coming from wide variety of professions and walks-of-life, the Board members have quickly seen the importance of the Institute and its work…and acted on that realization.

The future of the Institute is predicated on two vital factors:

  1. New applications from qualified students around the world have generated a need for more - and better - facilities to house a larger student population and the faculty, advisors and staff needed to continue fulfilling the mission of the Institute. And with that growth comes the need for newer and larger educational support facilities, such as improved laboratory, computer and distance-learning equipment, and a more comprehensive library.
  2. As the cost of educating students rises, so too does the cost of providing scholarships. AIES scholarships are available to qualified Israelis of all ethnic backgrounds, Palestinians, Jordanians and other Arabs from across the region*. Many talented and committed young leaders from those regions have no recourse but to remain in limiting educational situations. To this end, the Board is actively engaged in helping the Institute create a stable endowment for students, teachers and scholars.

Other growth factors, such as effective alumni networking tools, play a roll in how the Board targets potential donor organizations and individuals. It is not an exaggeration to state that the futures of these young leaders, and the Arava Institute, is a necessary facet of the solutions to environmental well-being and co-existence in the Mideast.

*At the present time, there are also limited funds for scholarships and tuition support to qualified students from North America, the EU and other countries around the globe.
